NATURAL ideas

Many natural practitioners believe with some assistance in the pregnancy you can assist your body to deliver your baby with minimal trauma to your perineum. They will  look at your overall health and wellbeing. They will ensure you have  adequate iron levels therefore healthy tissues which will naturally stretch to allow your baby to be born.

Exercises to prevent sutures and give birth naturally.

Pregnancy diet.

Ensure you eat nutritious food so that your baby gets the right nutrients but so do you. Your baby will take what it needs from your diet and you are left with the left overs. If you are eating too many biscuits, cakes, chips and chocolates then when it comes to the birth your tissues will not stretch as well as they could and more importantly heal well after giving birth.
Things to include in your daily diet.
Fruits, vegetables, high quality protein, omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids as well as a high quality vitamin supplement if this is recommended.

Prevent infection.

  • Apply calendula ( which you can buy from a Naturopath, a most health store or some pharmacy's) to the perineum area to promote healing and soften the tissue after birth.
  • To prevent infection and keep your perineum clean after birth use a pump bottle with 2 drops of tea tree oil and 2 drops of lavender oil with tepid water and frequently wash down the perineum after going to the toilet. Then apply a clean sanitary pad. This is especially important in the first two weeks after giving birth.

Help for a painful perineum after several weeks or months.

  • Having pain in your perineum area is not much fun. Most Mothers will complain of pain whilst having sexual intercourse and that it feels different but this should settle within the first few months after your baby is born.
  • Be patient sometimes you just need to give things time to settle down.
  • Get a medical opinion from your Doctor so you know what you are dealing with.
  • Massage the suture line daily for 5 minutes to help the tissue soften. Many Mothers find this helpful.
  • Acupuncture is very effective to decrease the pain and provides blood flow to the area.
  • A healthy diet is vital especially high in iron and omega 3 fish oils for elasticity of the skin.
