Medical tests and treatment
A significant percentage of babies pick up a yeast infection from the mother's vagina during the birth. (It is good to clear up vaginal thrush in the last weeks of pregnancy. Thrush can also be a side effect of antibiotics given to mother or baby. If your baby has thrush, you may see white curdy patches on her/his tongue, inside cheeks or gums. Sometimes the baby will have no symptoms in the mouth, but will have a persistent that does not respond to ordinary treatments (washing or creams). Both mother and baby need to be treated, or one will re-infect the other.
