Medical tests and treatment
If your baby is not well positioned at your breast during feeds you will almost certainly get sore nipples. A wrongly positioned baby is the main cause of persistent sore nipples (and often other breast feeding problems to).
Breast creams and ointments are sometimes recommended. Choose carefully as these can cause irritation and clog pores. If you decide to use a cream, choose a non-toxic herbal ointment, such as calendula, which you do not have to wash off before feeding. Avoid any cream that contains alcohol as this dries the nipples. Do NOT use soap or antiseptic washes on your nipples. |
