Often when our little ones get sick we don't know what to do!
If your baby gets a fever, develops a cough, a rash, is not wanting to feed, becomes floppy or is screaming then you need to get your baby to be checked by a doctor to get a proper diagnoses.
But sometimes they just have mild symptoms that can be treated by you at home.
- Many babies get a blocked nose in the first few weeks of life. If their nose is blocked they will find it hard to breath. You can get 50mls water with a little pinch of salt added and using an eye dropper or syringe put a few drops up baby nose to clear the mucous before you feed baby.
- Place an onion cut in half on the floor of your babies room, this will help stop baby coughing and dry the mucous in the nose. Smells terrible but works well!
- Many babies get sticky eyes. I find the best way to clean the eye is with cooled boiled water, or chamomile tea bag soak in water for 10minutes then when cool clean the eye. Also you can put 1/4 spoon of breast milk into the eye as an eye bath as this has antibacterial properties. You need to do this at least 5 x day for 5 days. If the eye gets red or inflamed you need to take baby to the doctor as sometimes babies need antibiotic eye ointment.
